Platelet therapy, concentration, rich plasma, healing gel

The effectiveness of topical platelet therapy through the platelet gel is strictly related to the platelet concentration of the platelet rich plasma.

The platelet gel therapy, or topical platelet therapy, is carried out to induce or to hasten the tissue repair and regeneration. Soft and bony tissues are sensitive to the treatment with platelet healing gel.
Skin, bones, muscle, tendonds and other tissues benefit from the platelet therapy.

Platelet therapy is based on the topic administration of a autologous platelet healing gel where the platelet concentration is high enough to provide the tissues with high concentration of platelet-derived growth factors.

Autologous platelet concentration is obtained through blood centrifugation using simple blood processing device ore more complex cell separators.

The platelet rich plasma (commonly indicated as PRP) thereby obtained is concentrated up to a platelet concentration of 1 billion of platelets per milliliter.

This platelet concentration is approximately 4-6 folds that currently found in the circulating blood. Thus, the platelet-derived growth factors being enriched accordingly. This concentrated platelet rich plasma is the "activated" through coagulation-inducing enzymes which generate the platelet healing gel, or platelet gel.

The platelet gel is used to cover or to fill a tissue lesion. In some clinical condition, such as in cosmetic treatments and in sports medicine, the "inactivated" platelet rich plasma can also be used through tissue-infiltration. This kind of treatment requires high platelet concentration as well.
